Next year, the Tourenwagen Junior Cup will start its first full season. Now that the ordered vehicles have been delivered and are in use with teams, the next customer vehicles are already being built. Vehicle pre-orders for the 2021 season are possible from 15 October 2020.
Preparations for the 2021 Tourenwagen Junior Cup season are already underway. The core of the series is the standardised VW up! GTI Cup used by all competitors. Since the cars are based on production vehicles, a lead time is required: the cars are first stripped down to the bare shell before being rebuilt as race cars.
“This year we’ve seen how quickly plans can be upended. The order window minimises the risk for drivers and teams and secures availability,” says Matthias Meyer.
The cup version of the VW up! GTI was developed specifically for the needs of the new Tourenwagen Junior Cup. “The vehicles feature a wide range of modifications made up of many individual components. As with all race cars, the VW up! GTI Cup is ultimately a big parts puzzle that we need lead time to build,” adds Meyer, who is responsible for building the vehicles.
